Phil stands atop an old growth stump still standing in a second growth clearcut and looks towards the next nearest old growth stump still visible. The stump he is standing on belonged to an 800 year old tree that was likely cut 80 or so years ago. The smaller stumps all around are the second growth trees that have been harvested recently.
